Fire Breaks Out In Field Off Clark Rd in North Crown Point
A fire broke out in a dry field today (Wednesday) West of Clark Road, south of 91st St just Northwest of White Hawk golf course. Smoke was visible for miles around and wafted out onto Taft near the Government Center. According to a Crown Point FD spokesman, a property owner was clearing and burning brush a half mile west of Clark Road near Beaver Damn Ditch when the fire got out of hand. The wind took it East to within a few yards of Clark Rd.

Around 4:30 the fire could be seen from Clark Rd beginning to kick up. Just 10 minutes later, it had blown to within a few hundred feet of where I am standing here.
Crown Point Fire Department and Lake Hills Fire Department were both on seen to battle the blaze and keep it from destroying houses nearby off 99th PL as well as a house in the 9500 block of Clark.

Members of Crown Point FD prepare to enter the field from Clark Rd as fire and smoke rush towards them spurred by high winds.
Conditions in NW Indiana this fall have been unseasonably dry, making brush fires ever more possible. Here is a warning that was issued by the National Weather Service just this morning for this very reason:
CONTINUED DRY CONDITIONS WILL COMBINE WITH A DRY AIRMASS AND STRONG GUSTY WINDS RESULTING IN FAVORABLE CONDITIONS FOR RAPID FIRE SPREAD THIS AFTERNOON

Great coverage.
