Crown Brewing Beer Review: Special Forces IPA

Today I want to give ya’ll a review of a great beer that is craft brewed right here in Crown Point at Crown Brewing. Crown Brewing is located on East Street just across from the Super Bowl Bowling Alley.

Anyway, brewmaster Steve Mazelewski has done a super job crafting some great beers right here locally. He has a little something for everyone in there. Watch the vid and see my review of the Special Forces India Pale Ale. It’s hoppy and malty balance is well made.

Now, just in case any of you reading and viewing are true “beer experts” or “beer snobs,” yes, I know that I did not use the proper glassware and my pour was not good either. What you will learn about me is that I am a true beer drinker who loves beers crafted by artisans. I also love the small business enthusiasm behind them. But one thing I def do not do, is try to make beer stuffy and snobby like wine! So I drink, enjoy and drink some more… using a red Dixie cup if I must! :)

In addition, I don’t look down on folks who drink Bud and Miller. There are those who just have not discovered stronger or hoppier beers yet. Someday, if we help them along, they will also come to love American Craft beers! In other words, no BEER SNOBS are allowed here, LOL :)

Anyway, I highly recommend you stop by Crown Brewing and try out some of their beers. Their tasting room is quaint and welcoming! They give tours too, just ask!

Have any of you tried this brew? What did you think?

  1. Wise guys is the best place with the best prices for craft brews in the area. love that place.

I have tried Special Forces and I think its the best one to come out of Crown. I personally prefer going all the way to a Imperial IPA, i dont think Crown has brewed one yet. Do you know?

    • Hey Joe, yeah Wise Guys in Crown Point carries the largest craft brew selection anywhere that I know of. They also have beer tasting on Friday nights, pretty cool.
I don’t think Crown Brewing is doing an Imperial but they have a double IPA coming out this summer which should be very refreshing for us hop-heads!

  2. Crown brewed a Russian Imperial Stout earlier this year during February or so. I didn’t try it, though.

    • I am still looking forward to that 2IPA! they have this Blueberry wheat beer over there too that my wife likes (wink win, nudge nudge) and I will be reviewing that very soon as well.

  3. Allyn, I have enjoyed that brew quite a few times. Still searching though for a terrific barley wine … Aberdeen Brewing used to have one and I just haven’t seen one since.

    • Hey Steve, yeah, Barley Wines are pretty strong for me. As you know, it is difficult to balance the high alc content with decent taste.
Stone Brewing as a good one and you can get it over at Wiseguys in Crown Point.

  4. Excellent review of Special Forces India Pale Ale. You made me want to run out and get one. I will have to check out the brewery soon.

    • Hey Shaun,
thanks man, I really hope you like it. If you are a fan of IPAs then this one will not disappoint.
If you go on a Sunday, Steve usually gives tours in the early-mid-afternoon. It’s a sweet operation over there.

  5. I love Wise Guys. I’ll have to try this beer, I’m a big Three Floyds fan and I love the hops!
